eSobi, your vacation planner!

eSobi is a great personal global news center, preloaded on all Acer computers for everyone to subscribe and read news from their favorite sites. However, it is much more than just a news reader. Why not plan your next vacation with eSobi?

Let's start simple. Here is an example of how eSobi helped me make a perfect plan - a weekend getaway with the budget spending on a fine dinner, instead of on skyrocketing airfare and fuel prices. Without any resources, I first opened eSobi and entered "travel guide" using Advanced Search in Meta Search , with U.S. English as preferred country and language, along with 50 results per engine, hoping to find online references. With Hundreds of results showed up and displayed on the screen, I selected "travel guides" in Keyword Proposition , an automatic filtering tool, to promptly narrow down to less than thirty. I was stimulated to find that most well-known travel publications, such as Lonely Planet and Formmer's, have provided RSS subscription with the most updated information. Most conveniently, I was able to add those feeds into eSobi RSS Reader immediately and began reading.

With clock ticking away, I entered a keyword combination "restaurant" and "food", in Channel Watch, "Northwest" (where I currently live in) in News Filter , to sort out what I needed quickly . Two articles introducing some new restaurants and authentic local specialties in the Pacific Northwest caught my eyes. To get more detailed information, I highlighted the name of the restaurants that I'm interested in, right-clicked on the mouse, and selected "eSobi Meta Search". Again, I typed "reviews" in Search Results Filter to rapidly refine my search to only customer recommendations. Within less than 30 minutes, I have already collected plenty of tempting spots. The best part of eSobi is that I could easily save my searched history to Meta Search for future comparison as well as reference, and to Document Clipping for editing and sharing.

Document Clipping is a handy tool when comes to information organization. Not only could I store all my findings in my personalized and categorized folders , I even added my own notes into the articles and edited their summary for convenient article search. I could then easily share my ideas to friends and family to finalize the plan together. eSobi truly saved me a ton of time and energy on searching and organizing, as everything was smartly integrated in one simple interface. Try using the same method to find hotels or ideal destinations yourself next time!

Tips:

  1. Specify search location and language in "Advanced Search" to get the most accurate results.
  2. Add online news to eSobi RSS reader, as most publications and TV news nowadays offer online version with RSS subscription. Don't forget to subscribe your destination's local news, too. Some examples listed below:
    • http://www.lonelyplanet.com/pressroom/rss.xml
    • http://asp.usatoday.com/marketing/rss/rsstrans.aspx?feedId=travel1
    • http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/rss/travel.xml
  3. Set keyword "restaurant" in "Channel Watch" to let eSobi RSS Reader automatically find restaurant news for you. Then type a location or your desired cuisine type in "News filter" to get what you are exactly looking for.
  4. Highlight any interesting term while reading RSS articles, right click and select "Meta Search" to conduct searching immediately.
  5. "Search History" (in Meta Search) and "Document Clipping" are both convenient ways to store information; the first one for the whole search results plus keywords, and the latter one for the articles themselves.
  6. Right click an article in Document Clipping and select "Modify" to edit its summary for future easy search.
